Phase 1 Surveys

Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey/ Initial Ecological Apraisal

Phase 1 Map

This is the baseline ecology survey for terrestrial habitats that provides an initial assessment of the potential ecological constraints within a site.  It is recommended that an extended phase 1 survey is undertaken for all proposed development sites to identify the ecological risk at the early stages of a project.  It involves a desk study of available ecological data, a site walkover and an ecological constraints report.

The survey follows the JNCC guidelines and maps broad habitat types, identifies the presence or potential for protected species, species of principle importance (UK BAP species) and invasive species.  The report provides recommendations for further Phase 2 surveys and mitigation.  The optimal survey period for this survey is April- October but can be undertaken throughout the year where there are time constraints.
